1940 Salt Lake Tribune - Mountair Acres

In 1940 the mortgage payment for a Mountair Acres home started at $28.39 a month!

With a donation of $25 or more to The Mountair Acres L.L.C. you will receive a thank you gift of an archival print from The Salt Lake Tribune newspaper dated March 21, 1940. This article showcases the first few homes of The Mountair Acres Subdivision.
These donations will aid toward the neighborhood improvement projects. For donations contact Travis Olsen #455-6999.

Proposed Neighborhood Improvements

Entry monuments and streetscape improvements along Highland Drive

This project would consist of the following:

1- Nortwest and Southwest monument signs.
*Materials- brick, concrete, and pavers.
*Signage illuminated. (Christmas lighting capabilities)
*Landscaping.

2- Sidewalk, curb and gutter, bollard and landscaping connecting monument signs.

3- New UTA bus stop near northwest and southwest monument signs.

4- Install "No parking anytime" signs on east side of Highland Drive connecting monument signs.

We are trying to fund these neighborhood projects with a combination of goverment fiancial aid, business and personal monetary / materials / labor donations. If you would like to get involved or donate. Contact Travis Olsen at #455.6999

Other neighborhood improvements and ideas

Involvment and suggestions are welcome!

1. Continue the sidewalk from Wolcotts to Woodland drive.
2. Road diet on Highland drive- re-strip Highland Drive (North of 3300 South to the intersection of Richmond Street / 1300 East and Highland Drive) with one lane of traffic north and south and with a center turning lane. Bike lanes north and southbound. Curb and gutter and sidewalk improvements. Re-striping along Highland for crosswalks.
3. Signage and Traffic Control.
*"Children At Play" signs entering to the east on 3010 South and Crescent Drive.
*"Stop" sign at the intersection of Gregson and 1640 East.
*Speed Bumps entering to the east on 3010 South and Crescent Drive.
4. Countdown crosswalks signs along Highland Drive, 3010 South, and Crescent Drive.
5. Wheelchair / stroller accessibility (A.D.A.) curb cut at Richmond Street and Brickyard Drive. 6. Restriping of Imperial Street (From 3300 South north to 2700 South with bike lanes north and southbound. Curb and gutter with sidewalk.
7. East entrance monument sign at Gregson and Imperial Street.
8. Historic street lighting (w/light pollution sensitivity) within the Mountair Acres subdivision.
9. Block captains (14) - (1) Mountair Drive, (1) Crescent Drive, (2) 3010 South, (2) Gregson Avenue, (2) 3115 South, (2) 3150 South, (2) 1640 East. Total homes in neighborhood is 371.
10. Neighorhood website. - www.mountairacres.com This website is underconstruction and will be launching by the end of June. Some of these items may be on the site.

October- Trunk or Treet / Serve O Ween food drive w/ the LDS church or other entity.
November- Neighborhhood entry Monument Christmas Lighting.
December- Mountair Acres "Sub for Santa" with the the LDS church or other entity.

2006 Mountair Mile Race Photos

Our first year was a great success. We had about 40 athletes in the race and raised about $700 for The Sharing Place.



Here are just a few of the racers gearing up at the starting line.



Ibrahim Quraishi and Anderson Murakami were neck and neck right down to the finish line.



Ibrahim ended up pulling ahead to take the title for the 2006 Mountair Mile. Congratulations!
