We would like to thank all those who made the 5th annual Mountair Mile Children's Race a success. The race has grown from 35 participants the first year to 196 this past year. The growing popularity of this race has been exciting.

2009 Mountair Mile results

The participants this year increased again with a total of 152 athletes and an a donation of about $3,000 to The Sharing Place. Your race entries may be small but they add up. - Thank You- A special thanks to the Canyon Rim Community Council of Millcreek Township, Black Cat Comics, and to all of our business sponsors. Most importantly we couldn't have done the event without all of the racers and volunteers. We look forward to seeing you all again in 2010.

Next year will be 5 years of racing strong. Tell your friends and family so they are ready to bike, skate, scoot, and run the Mountair Mile.

*New this year the “Memory Board”
For those who are racing in memory of someone will have the opportunity to tape their own 5”x7” or smaller picture of their loved one onto the “Memory Board” prior to or after the race. They may also like to tape a picture to their tricycle, bicycle or scooter during the race. After the race you are welcome to take your picture home or donate it to the Mountair Mile Memory Board for The Sharing Place.

The Sharing Place - "A grief support program for children, teens, and their families".

The 2008 Mountair Mile was a great success.

We increased our number of participants again and had a wonderful donation of about $2,600 to The Sharing Place. These proceeds came from our many sponsors and each of your race entry fees. A special thanks to the Canyon Rim Community Council of Millcreek Township and to all of our business sponsors. Most importantly we couldn't have done the event without all of the racers and volunteers. We look forward to seeing you all again in 2009.

We had a great turn out for the 2nd annual Mountair Mile. There were about 100 athletes. The event was able to raise about $1200 for The Sharing Place. Thanks to all of our community minded sponsors. A special thanks to The Canyon Rim Community Council and Millcreek Township for supporting neighborhood events.

In 1940 the mortgage payment for a Mountair Acres home started at $28.39 a month!

With a donation of $25 or more to The Mountair Acres L.L.C. you will receive a thank you gift of an archival print from The Salt Lake Tribune newspaper dated March 21, 1940. This article showcases the first few homes of The Mountair Acres Subdivision.

These donations will aid toward the neighborhood improvement projects. For donations contact Travis Olsen #455-6999.

Entry monuments and streetscape improvements along Highland Drive

This project would consist of the following:

1- Nortwest and Southwest monument signs.
*Materials- brick, concrete, and pavers.
*Signage illuminated. (Christmas lighting capabilities)
*Landscaping.

2- Sidewalk, curb and gutter, bollard and landscaping connecting monument signs.

3- New UTA bus stop near northwest and southwest monument signs.

4- Install "No parking anytime" signs on east side of Highland Drive connecting monument signs.

We are trying to fund these neighborhood projects with a combination of goverment fiancial aid, business and personal monetary / materials / labor donations. If you would like to get involved or donate. Contact Travis Olsen at #455.6999

Other neighborhood improvements and ideas

Involvment and suggestions are welcome!

1. Continue the sidewalk from Wolcotts to Woodland drive.
2. Road diet on Highland drive- re-strip Highland Drive (North of 3300 South to the intersection of Richmond Street / 1300 East and Highland Drive) with one lane of traffic north and south and with a center turning lane. Bike lanes north and southbound. Curb and gutter and sidewalk improvements. Re-striping along Highland for crosswalks.
3. Signage and Traffic Control.
*"Children At Play" signs entering to the east on 3010 South and Crescent Drive.
*"Stop" sign at the intersection of Gregson and 1640 East.
*Speed Bumps entering to the east on 3010 South and Crescent Drive.
4. Countdown crosswalks signs along Highland Drive, 3010 South, and Crescent Drive.
5. Wheelchair / stroller accessibility (A.D.A.) curb cut at Richmond Street and Brickyard Drive. 6. Restriping of Imperial Street (From 3300 South north to 2700 South with bike lanes north and southbound. Curb and gutter with sidewalk.
7. East entrance monument sign at Gregson and Imperial Street.
8. Historic street lighting (w/light pollution sensitivity) within the Mountair Acres subdivision.
9. Block captains (14) - (1) Mountair Drive, (1) Crescent Drive, (2) 3010 South, (2) Gregson Avenue, (2) 3115 South, (2) 3150 South, (2) 1640 East. Total homes in neighborhood is 371.
10. Neighorhood website. - www.mountairacres.com This website is underconstruction and will be launching by the end of June. Some of these items may be on the site.

Our first year was a great success. We had about 50 athletes in the race and raised about $700 for The Sharing Place.

Ibrahim Quraishi and Anderson Murakami were neck and neck right down to the finish line.

Ibrahim ended up pulling ahead to take the title for the 2006 Mountair Mile. Congratulations!
